happy Valentine’s Day. today is the day that PDA on social media is accepted and even encouraged, so we decided to join in. Leslie Knope style. it’s Galentine’s day. welcome to the first edition of the #girlcrush series, where we “fangirl” over an awesome chick who is talented, has a serious passion for helping others and major style along with it. today we want to introduce to you Sophia Anna Bush, not Brooke Davis from One Tree Hill, or Erin Lindsay from Chicago P.D., or the hippie girlfriend from John Tucker Must Die (you forgot about that didn't you?). but our current girl crush, the philanthropist, activist, down to earth Sophia Bush. most well known for portraying the owner of Clothes over Bros, Sophia Bush is used to being in the spotlight, allowing some major organizations to shine with her. Sophia is a passionate advocate for accessible education for all children and is an active supporter of Pencils of Promise – a non-profit dedicated to donating 100% of their proceeds to creating and sustaining schools across the globe. so how exactly is Sophia Bush lending a hand and her heart to PoP? In 2012, she decided to raise $30,000 for her 30th birthday. Sophia encouraged her family, friends and fans to donate to PoP in hopes of raising enough money to build a school in Guatemala. five days before her 30th birthday, her goal was surpassed. Sophia values education in places where financial resources are lacking, not only does she seek to help people in need, but encourages others to get involved (can you see why this is called a girl crush series? #gushing). we’re not the only ones who recognize Sophia and all she’s done. 2011: Sophia Bush won the “Do Something Twitter Award” for educating her followers, and others, on ways to help after the BP oil spill. 2012: Sophia Bush won the “Bing Philanthropy Award” at the Young Hollywood Awards, given to a young celebrity who has philanthropically impacted his/her peers the greatest. 2013: Sophia Bush participated in Live Below the Line. this anti-poverty campaign promotes knowledge about the emotional realities of life below the poverty line. as a participant you’re given $1.50 per day to spend on food and drink for five days. not only does Sophia have an exceptionally impactful voice, but the girl has killer style too. we curated our favorite Sophia day and night looks and show you how to create your own with pieces from the new umano Spring15 collection. we’re all about Sophia’s casual-cool street style. trade in a plain grey t-shirt for THE TRAPS longsleeve tee in heather white. toss your favorite bomber over the top, pull on your go-to ripped jeans and slide on those slip-on kicks that you've essentially worn a hole in but refuse to replace. easy. don’t forget a handbag or clutch with a “PoP” of color so you can fill it with flyers for the next benefit concert you’re attending. now you've got Sophia Bush’s effortless street look. I respect somebody who has a brain and wants to use it more than a pretty face and status." – Sophia Bush Sophia Bush is truly a powerful voice.
