the art of layering
Posted on December 11 2014
layering is an important skill to master that is useful for every style; from Stevie Nicks’ witchy boho to Jackie O’s classic look. here’s how we love to layer. being Georgia born and raised, you have to learn to deal with multiple seasons in the same day, especially this time of year. the day starts with a crisp fall morning but quickly melts into a summer-like afternoon. layering ain't no joke. the foundation of each of these looks is a shortsleeve tee. these styles can easily be rocked year-round with a little layering know-how. we may or may not have taken some of dad’s old flannels and denim welding shirts and used them as cozy layers that add a masculine edge. plus, we love to reuse and “upcycle” around here. a lot of the pieces used in these looks are second-hand or vintage, it’s how we make “green” sexy. start by picking your favorite PocketArt, (we went with THE TINY DANCER + THE TAXI) then put on your coziest open front flannel. layer an oversized knit cardigan over that, and throw on your favorite winter coat. more warmth? pack the layers on with leggings under your skinnies. double up those socks, and top the look off with a scarf and beanie. that’s all there is to it. we’re rocking the classico grey crewneck tee and classico black scoopneck tee. did i mention we like to reuse and repurpose? well, you get double points for making your summer and spring skater skirts twerk for winter. if you’re a skirt girl like me then you’ll wear them as many days as you can. layer up with tights and trouser socks or tall socks. we also endorse booties or oxfords and layering button ups under AND over tees. frostbite ain't no fun. but you can still rock your favorite shortsleeves all year. get to it! the gauntlet has been thrown down. shop them all here. ciao, lara stylist intern & Pinterest curator
